We know that sometimes, in the middle of research, writing, working, and reading, you just need to get away. Especially now, with shelter-in-place orders or travel restrictions in many states, you may not even be able to “get away” in your own community. The good news is that many organizations have put “virtual tours” online for people to enjoy, and there are plenty to try out, no matter what your interests.
Whether you’re looking for a quick getaway before returning to writing your dissertation, or you plan on taking a whole day’s trip for a relaxing and unique day off of work, look no further – here are some of the coolest virtual tours and trips we’ve seen.
(Don’t forget, when you “come back,” Dissertation Editor will be here waiting!)
The Louvre, The Met, MoMA, and more. Do you love art museums? You’re in for a treat here. More than 2,000 museums have posted virtual tours on Google Arts and Culture – check out the site here, and then take your pick. Which one is your favorite?
Walt Disney World. We could all use a little trip to the happiest place on earth right now, right? Disney has 360-degee panorama shots of Epcot, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and much more. If you love the food at the Disney parks, also check out Disney Eats.
National Parks. If camping, hiking, or nature is more your speed, check out the virtual tours of National Parks that are available. (Hint: you can also do this if you have the Google Earth app on your phone and look up a park).
Deep dives. Okay, so maybe you love nature but the water is your true love. Don’t despair – the National Marine Sanctuaries have put together virtual dive galleries. These are simply breathtaking 360-degree views of deep dives.
The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. This is one of the best tours we’ve seen – permanent exhibits, current exhibits, the museum support center and research stations – there is so much to see here and it’s great for the entire family. Check it out here.
