We arrive at a quote through a detailed tally of the document’s specific editing requirements and formatting elements. We begin with the prose word count, multiplied by the rate for the chosen level of editing, then add references and/or notes, plus tables, figures, front matter, table of contents, lists of tables and figures, appendices, etc. as applicable. This means that there is no one-size-fits-all price for editing and that the price we quote you is reflective as much as possible of the actual work your document requires.
We carefully examine and assess your document prior to providing any recommendations or a service proposal and quote. For the assessment process, we will ask you to provide all relevant supporting materials—for instance, if you have feedback from a chair or reviewer, or if you have a set of guidelines from your institution, such as a style guide, template, or handbook.
Once we have all the guidelines and contextualizing information for your project, we will assess your materials and then get back to you with our recommendations for service and a proposed work order, including an exact timeline and quote.
If the proposed outline of services meets your needs, we accept first payment and begin work. If however you wish to make tweaks to the work order, you can simply communicate that to us and we will make adjustments accordingly. This review and assessment is free, and you will only ever be charged for services that you explicitly approve and order.
Once we receive your document and supporting material, we are generally able to respond within one business day to provide an assessment and service order proposal. If you are in a rush, you should alert us to your deadlines and we will make every effort to complete this assessment process more quickly.
The turnaround for an order is proportionate to the order’s size and scope. A full-length dissertation is generally completed within 10-12 business days from receipt of payment, while a short document or essay generally carries a turnaround of 5 business days. If you are in a rush, expedited service is available for a proportionate fee.
The pricing for an order is based on the particular needs of the document to be edited. That is, we arrive at a quote through a detailed tally of the document’s specific editing requirements and formatting elements. To that end, we begin with prose word count, which is the lowest common denominator in all documents, and multiply that count by the rate for the chosen level of editing—be it proofreading, copy editing, line editing, or heavy developmental editing.
To the prose base we add any additional elements present in the document: references, in-text or footnote citations, tables, figures, front matter, table of contents, lists of tables and figures, appendices, etc., as applicable. Each of these elements we assess individually for its relative difficulty and the intensity of work it will entail; for instance, we naturally would not assign a three-row table the same fee as a multi-page, landscape-oriented table.
Once you have approved the service proposal and made first payment to initiate the order, the project manager assigns your project to an appropriate editor. Your editor communicates closely with the project manner throughout the course of their work to ensure that the project is executed in accordance with all instructions. During this process, we may reach out to you for clarification of requirements or further instruction.
Some clients come to us with a clear sense of which services they want. Others welcome the service recommendations we make based on our assessment of the relative quality of the writing, any reviewer or advisor feedback, and the overall scope and state of the project.
We offer a wide range of payment plans, though a deposit is always due upfront to initiate your order, and full payment is typically expected by the time the order is complete. Some exceptions can be made for returning clients with extenuating circumstances. We accept all major credit cards, checks and money orders by mail, PayPal, Zelle, and bank wire transfers. Please note that if you are paying via check, we will wait until it clears the bank before moving forward with your order.
