Flexible partnership models for universities and academic departments
Three Main Models
1. Referral Partnership
Basic model:
- Faculty, writing centers, or departments refer students
- We send back reports and recommendations
- No cost to the university
2. Subsidized Support Model
University pays partially for approved services to help more students succeed.
3. Institutional Contract
University pays for any or all of the following:
- Formatting services
- Editing for all dissertations/theses
- Writing workshops
- Publishing support for faculty
4. Departmental Retainer (The "Faculty Block Grant")
- How it works: A Dean or Department Chair purchases a block of hours (e.g., 50, 100, or 200 hours) at a preferred rate.
- Flexibility: These hours are held in a "draw-down" account that can be used by any approved faculty member or graduate student in the department.
- Usage: Can be applied to grant proposals, journal articles, book chapters, or student dissertation support.
- Oversight: The Department Head receives a monthly utilization report showing exactly who used the service and for what project.
- Benefit: Bypasses the need for individual purchase orders for every small project, allowing faculty to get help immediately when a deadline looms.
